Purged Village Walkthrough

After escaping Shrike’s Lair and clearing Shrike, The Judging Bird, your party arrives at the Chapel in Purged Village — the first major hub of the full Shards of Order campaign beyond the demo dungeon. Villagers are hostile or desperate, the east Village Gate stays locked until you restore the Law of Identity, and multiple questlines branch across Crime and Punishment and Dangerous Roads story threads.

This walkthrough assumes you finished the opening sequence documented in the Demo Walkthrough and Boss Guide Shrike section. Pair it with Combat System, Ethereal Power for knockout recovery, and Regions for how Purged Village fits the three-region map.

Arriving at the Chapel

You enter Purged Village from the west after the scripted loss outside Shrike’s Nest. Talk to NPCs at the Chapel to pick up objectives. The Village Gate to the east requires the Law of Identity — treat that restoration as your north star while clearing side content for gear, cards, and party levels.

Before wandering:

  1. Rest and review your shared deck on the Deck Calculator.
  2. Confirm Soldier can tank telegraphed hits via position swaps — see Controls.
  3. Read Laws and Fracture if you relied on revive spam in Shrike’s Lair; launch Fracture stacks punish careless redraws.

The Apprentice’s Request (Crime and Punishment)

The Apprentice questline introduces Purged Village’s moral weight. Follow dialogue at the Chapel and nearby structures to unlock Crime and Punishment beats. These quests often gate access to interior areas and inject narrative cards into your shared pile — check Items and Cards after each reward.

Combat tip: Village elites use tighter countdown windows than demo trash. Open with three low-time cards before paying for a draw, per Combat System rules.

Reaching Margrave’s Manor

Margrave’s Manor sits north of the village core and anchors several Crime and Punishment objectives. Explore interior rooms for lore, skill-check dialogue, and gear that modifies your deck. If a fight spikes revive costs, backtrack to safer nodes — persistent progression means revisiting is valid, not failure.

Document which armor or amulet injections you pick up; Margrave-area gear often shifts party role balance on the Character Tier List.

Save the Miller or the Herbalist

Purged Village presents a binary choice: rescue the Miller or the Herbalist. You cannot save both in the same run state — plan around which reward chain fits your build.

Saving the Herbalist

Herbalist rewards tend toward sustain and recovery options valuable if you already carry Fracture pressure from early knockouts. Scholar-led parties often prefer Herbalist paths when ally-damage loops need longer fights.

Saving the Miller

Miller rewards skew toward economic or offensive village access. Soldier-led parties chasing faster clears may prefer Miller outcomes if the injected cards add low-time pressure tools.

Whichever you choose, note the cut content on your map — revisit on a later playthrough if you want the alternate injection set.

Blacksmith quest chain (Crime and Punishment)

Two linked objectives drive the Blacksmith storyline:

  1. Finding the Blacksmith’s Head — explore village outskirts and combat pockets tied to Crime and Punishment.
  2. Finding the Blacksmith’s Body — follow updated quest markers after the head recovery beat.

Completing both opens Reaching the Forge, where you can upgrade gear that injects new cards. Forge access is a power spike — re-run Deckbuilding band targets before the next boss gate.

Salesman and Hermit (Dangerous Roads)

The Salesman and The Hermit questlines belong to the Dangerous Roads thread. They route you through exterior nodes with higher encounter density:

  • Salesman paths reward trade-adjacent cards and currency-like resources for shop nodes.
  • Hermit paths test survival builds and often pair with environmental hazards.

Clear Dangerous Roads content when your party has at least one defensive injection and a practiced free-draw opener.

Saving the Wereshrike (Dangerous Roads)

Saving the Wereshrike is a Dangerous Roads combat gate. Expect elite countdown patterns similar to Shrike adds — prioritize killing summon objects before they remove a hero from play. If a hero gets impaled off-field, destroy the source object first, then revive or use Ethereal Power instead of spamming costly revive cards.

Black Wing Legion Outpost

Reaching The Black Wing Legion Outpost advances the main military thread. Enemies here hit harder than village trash; enter with:

  • Updated gear from the Forge if available.
  • A planned queue sequence from Redraw and Queue.
  • Exile arrow slots reserved for priority targets — see Exile guide.

Where to Find Margrave’s Insignia

Margrave’s Insignia is required for later tomb access. Search outpost-adjacent nodes and quest turn-ins; the insignia often sits behind a skill-check or short elite fight. Mark the node on your mental map for return trips if you lack DPS the first visit.

Finding Margrave’s Body

Separate from the Blacksmith chain, Finding Margrave’s Body closes a Crime and Punishment loop tied to the manor storyline. Finish this before pushing Morgain if you want maximum narrative context — mechanics do not hard-gate the boss, but missing rewards can leave gear gaps.

Opening Morgain’s Tomb

With Margrave’s Insignia and prior quest flags set, Opening Morgain’s Tomb unlocks the Purged Village capstone dungeon. Rest at the Chapel, trim dead cards from your shared deck, and read the boss section below before entering.

How to Beat Morgain, Guardian of the Order

Morgain, Guardian of the Order is Purged Village’s primary boss gate and your first full-campaign skill check after Shrike.

Phase discipline:

  1. Countdown audit — identify Morgain’s fastest ability and delay or interrupt it with low-time cards first.
  2. Position swaps — move Soldier to telegraphed lanes; movement costs one time and reduces redraw by one at launch.
  3. Add control — if Morgain summons support units, kill adds before they accelerate party-wide countdowns.
  4. Recovery plan — prefer Ethereal Power over triple revive spam when two heroes are crippled; Fracture stacks snowball redraw damage.

Morgain’s HP pool is manageable once adds are controlled — focus sustained sequences rather than opening burst that leaves hands empty before phase two.

After victory, return to the Chapel to restore the Law of Identity and open the east Village Gate toward the next region. Track macro progress on Regions and Post-Launch for week-one routing.
